This website is dedicated to all of us that are stroke survivors.  That deal with everyday challenges and finding ways to cope with our disability.  Being a stroke survivor myself I have a unique look at how life is like.  I think being a survivor I look at the world very differently then most people.  I will show you how I find everyday objects and convert them into a helper tool for me.  I am always looking to meet survivors and talk about ways we cope with life.  My goal is to get as much info about strokes and resources to help with your recovery
Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States.1 People of all ages and backgrounds can have a stroke.
Are you at risk for a stroke?
Well to be honest with you there are more people at risk then one might think.  Ask your Dr. If you have a history of any of these.This is just a small list of risk factors.  I will go into more detailed list of risk factors known to cause stroke's.
High blood pressure
Diabetes
Atrial fibrillation
High blood cholesterol
Poor diet
Types of stroke
A stroke, or "brain attack, known medically as a cerebrovascular accident (CVA), is the rapidly developing loss of brain function due to disturbance in the blood supply to the brain.  There are several common types of stroke.
With each of these there are several other types of stroke and I will explain them in more depth.
O ischemia (lack of blood flow) caused by a clot blocking blood flow.
O Intracerebral Hemorrhage:  occurs when a diseased blood vessel within the brain bursts
O Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: this occurs when a blood vessel just outside the brain ruptures.
O TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) Also called a "mini stroke
